About the NDIS
Use this link to the online NDIS Access Checklist tool to find out if you are eligible to access the NDIS .
If you think you are eligible call the National Disability Insurance Agency on 1800 800 110 to get an ‘Access Request Form’ that you will need to complete & return to NDIA to register.
Everyone will need to be assessed individually, but broadly speaking clients need to be:
· Under 65 yrs old when their local area joins the NDIS
· Need support to do everyday things because of a permanent impairment or condition
Some children under 6 years old will be eligible for NDIS even if their disability is not permanent but a developmental delay, if early intervention will significantly reduce any issues later on.
You can choose to:
· self-manage your own funds, in which case you make claims to NDIS personally,
· ask the NDIA – the agency established to administer the NDIS – to manage your funding for you, or
· appoint a Plan Manager, who is paid by the NDIS to organize the financial and administrative aspects of your plan. Plan Managers must be registered plan management providers with the NDIS.
Read about managing your NDIS plan.
If you are eligible for the NDIS, you will be required to develop a plan with an NDIS representative. An NDIS plan outlines a person’s needs and goals, and the disability related services and support that will be funded to achieve those goals.
Goals are matched to support categories and each category included in the plan will have a budget to purchase supports. The NDIS funds support under 3 categories:
- Capital funding: for purchasing one off items such as equipment, technology or modifications.
- Core funding: for day to day support required, such as personal care.
- Capacity funding: for skill building, training and learning.
Supports must be considered to be ‘reasonable and necessary’ to be funded.
Find out more about how to get started on the NDIS participant pathway here.
The NDIS is a national no-fault insurance scheme that provides individualised funding to match the support needed, and places control over the funding with individuals and their support network. Eligible NDIS participants will receive funding on an annual basis to purchase services, aids and equipment in accordance with the goals and budget outlined in their individual NDIS plans.
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is the agency responsible for implementing and overseeing the NDIS.
.
The NDIS is a new disability initiative that changes the way people with a disability under 65 will receive funding from the government. The aim of the NDIS is to provide more choice and control over what services you achieve, and how you receive them.
This national no-fault insurance scheme provides funding at an individual level to match the support needed, and places control over the funding with the individual and their support network.

Assistive Technology under the NDIS does not include:
Items for treatment or rehabilitation;
Built environment that is used by all – for example, ramps, pathways and lifts;
Mainstream technology that does not overcome a functional limitation but modifications to this technology could be AT – for example, a car would not be AT but modifications to the car could be AT;
Something that does not include a device – for example, medicine or training.
The NDIS defines Assistive Technology (or AT) as any device or system that allows individuals to perform tasks they would otherwise be unable to do, or increases the ease and safety with which tasks can be performed. The customised equipment provided by Solve is considered Assistive Technology.
Assistive Technology FAQs on the NDIS website provides more information about AT under the NDIS.
