Anthony is a primary school teacher living with quadriplegia. Anthony is a very active guy with and interest in sport, recreation and social activities with mates.
Anthony has a new goal – to play pool independently!
After mastering every green from bowling to golf, Anthony is ready for his next game on the green – the pool table at his local pub.
Solve Engineer Hassan Malik and technical volunteer Bill Dooley lead the development of the custom wheelchair pool cue, supported by Peter Kay, Adam Trudgen, and David Mitchell, creating multiple iterations over a four year period. RMIT University’s School of Engineering also collaborated on the design. Supported by A/Prof. Kate Fox, Associate Dean – HDR (School of Engineering) at RMIT, third year bio-medical engineering students used Solve’s concept to improve the concept and develop a practical solution. The final product was tested at Anthony’s local pub as Anthony played his very first game of pool and pocketed his first ball on the third shot.
Watch and learn more about Anthony’s active life with his new custom wheelchair pool cue, sure to turn heads from corner hotel to corner pockets.
